Oakland County Parks and Recreation closed the Red Oaks Waterpark for one summer due to a pandemic in the area. It reopened on June 23 and features a new children’s Splash Pad with 52 interactive water features. There is a new water play climber and slides for younger children to enjoy and a family restroom and shade structure are available on site.

Red Oaks Waterpark, which had reduced hours last year, is reopening for the 2022 season on June 25. The park is expected to reopen all its attractions after the summer closure. It will also reopen the nearby Waterford Oaks Waterpark this summer. The River Ride, a triple turn waterslide, and a wave-action pool are just a few of the attractions that will be back this summer.

The waterpark has a daily lifeguard shortage. This problem has been occurring in water parks nationwide for more than a decade and officials are still unable to identify the cause of the problem. For now, the Madison Heights Recreation Department will accept cash, credit, or checks for registration fees. The Recreation Department will charge a fee for any returned checks. Check this out.

Dogs only swim events

Oakland County Parks and Recreation is celebrating the end of summer with their 8th annual dog only swim events. This event allows dogs to take a dip in the water at the park’s Red Oaks and Waterford Oaks Waterparks. Each session is 55 minutes long, and dogs are grouped by weight. There will also be swimsuit and appearance contests for dogs. There is no human swimming allowed.

The events are free, but you should make sure to check with the Red Oaks Waterpark Madison Heights MI ahead of time to make sure the schedule is updated. They often change the date and time of the event, so make sure to check with them before coming.

Staff shortages

The summer season is nearly here, but many waterparks and swimming pools are struggling with staff shortages. The Red Oaks Waterpark in Madison Heights is one example. The park is currently operating at only half its capacity. The park is looking to hire as many as 75 new lifeguards over the next year to meet demand. Nicole, a lifeguard at Red Oaks, is urging others to consider working there for pay and flexible hours.

Until summer opens, Red Oaks Waterpark in Madison Heights is reopening its popular River Ride, but staff shortages at other area water parks may limit the hours of operation. The park plans to share staff with Red Oaks.
